 | City of Chicago Property Tax Relief Program | | | |
 | Wednesday January 27 2010 - 11:10:07
City of Chicago Property Tax Relief Program | Dear Homeowner,
As you know, we are currently experiencing the worst economic global recession since the Great Depression 70 years ago. I’m very concerned that too many people here in Chicago are struggling to make ends meet and keep their homes.
| During these tough times, we are doing all we can to protect Chicago's working and middle-class families, our seniors and other residents. | New higher city property taxes are the last thing we should be asking homeowners to pay next year.
| Homeowners need property tax relief, and they need it now.
| That's why I recently proposed and the City Council passed, the City of Chicago’s Property Tax Relief Program.
| It is meant to provide relief between $25 and $200 to City homeowners hit hardest by increases to their 2008 property tax bill for their primary residence. This program is needed largely because of the phase-out of the state law that put a 7 percent cap on the annual increase in the taxable value of home property, and because the drop of this year's exemption under that law went to $20,000 from $26,000.
| The amount of tax relief you might receive is based on a combination of income level and the amount of your property tax increase. For example, the lower your income and the higher your property tax increase, the more relief you’ll be eligible for. | On this website, you will be able to find an application, instructions and helpful tools to guide you through the application process. | Chicago's working families are the heart and soul of our city. We hope the Property Tax Relief Program will provide you with some assistance during these tough times.
| | Sincerely, | Mayor Richard M. Daley

zephead97Mar 09: 11:26Also I got cught when i was 15 stealing beer out of my neighbors garage. no charges tho.
zephead97Mar 09: 11:24Is a history of suspended license enough to get dropped from the medic hiring processing.
CFDAdminMar 08: 21:41Dadgerbob83, Nothing you can do until you back in Chicago. You would have to get certified in the state before you can put your name on the CFD hire list.
CFDAdminMar 08: 21:37Hiring freeze? No word on that. Looks like a new class is processing.
badgerbob83Mar 08: 18:19Hello,
I am a Navy Corpsman stationed over in Japan and am origically from the Chicago area. I am trying to go back to Chicago after I am done with the military in three years. I will have my paramedic and want to get hired to the FD as a medic and hopefully work over to the fire side. can anyone give me any info on how i could get started from online here. or a rough idea oh how long the process takes.
BOBBYVMar 06: 09:54Does anybody know anything about a hiring freeze ? Will this affect the candidates that finished the final phase of processing ?
dragonslayerMar 05: 17:04what number was the last list started from?
chicago1Mar 04: 10:30the list is based off the last digit of your social security number
dragonslayerMar 03: 22:07how do they go about giving people numbers for this new group? is it based off your social like it was for the fire test?
chicago1Mar 02: 18:23Hello everyone. I've mentioned it before, but I was hired by CFD as a paramedic about a year ago and would be more than happy to answer any questions you guys have during the process. This is the best job in the world. I am very happy for everyone getting processed. Give me a PM so we don't bog down the chatbox. Anyways Good Luck to everyone.
MXCMedicMar 02: 09:17I assume the list should be opening soon. But you know how that goes. Heard someone in the 520ish got his packet so they are definetly near the end of the list. Keep your eyes glued to this site! Good luck guys
kgsems9Mar 02: 09:00I hope so too because I need the list to open! haha. Good luck to everyone that just received their letters!
superbeetle73Mar 02: 00:58Sorry as mentioned it was something I heard IE not something set in stone but hopefully everyone gets on
kgsems9Mar 01: 18:28yeah I don't think there is any way the city would wait till the next fire test to hire medics seeing as, if the trend continues as it has since 1985, the next test won't be until 2015. The city has, as far as I have seen it, opened up the medic list every 3-4 years shortly after the old list finishes.
medic/ffburbsMar 01: 18:06Well if they are in the 400's then they should be pretty close to opening a new list because Daley said he is mad about the overtime. They need to keep hiring after these 100 or so are done with the process.
superbeetle73Mar 01: 17:40new medic list possibly when the next fire test is what i heard??
pwnekMar 01: 17:04any rumors of a new list starting?
analyticFeb 28: 08:29Remember how much you wanted this job and stay hungry. It'll get you through the academy and hopefully a long career with us. Good luck to all of you.
MedicTiffFeb 28: 07:25Recieved my packet. I am 419. Good luck to everyone.
