We have heard just maybe a class to start so we have more medics in the academy for the NATO/G8
bullet medic/ffburbs on Saturday January 28 2012 - 20:35:49
cfd admin, any news on anything?
bullet medic/ffburbs on Monday January 09 2012 - 12:49:41
Yes, and one would think they could not but medic vacancies because they are short staffed as it is. I guess time will tell.
bullet brentlee on Monday January 09 2012 - 11:55:08
Well in June they go through contract negotiations and with the way the mayor is cutting all these vacancies who knows what there gonna do.
bullet number93 on Sunday January 08 2012 - 10:24:08
Any word on when the city will hire off the new list?
bullet CFDAdmin on Saturday December 31 2011 - 22:26:22
No word by contract they should in the past they have not followed that but put in 20% in the next class
bullet medic/ffburbs on Friday December 30 2011 - 12:09:32
My mistake, I meant to type 10%, don't know why I typed 40 and then didn't realize it. So CFD Admin, do you think the 10% will be in with this next class?
bullet CFDAdmin on Friday December 30 2011 - 06:34:50
40% we wish. We make up 20% of the Dept. And we are lucky to get 10% of anything.
bullet medic/ffburbs on Thursday December 29 2011 - 17:20:18
I heard per union contract they have to have 40% crossovers, so unless they go against union contract there will have to be crossovers. We should know soon though, since they have to go in the academy Feb or March I thought.
bullet HuH on Thursday December 29 2011 - 17:07:46
There will be no crossovers with the "110"? This is whati have heard....

I am part of the last list and have yet to hear anything. If anyone hears anything concrete...please share:)
bullet GMedic on Saturday December 10 2011 - 16:18:55
I just heard today that a class of 40 medics will start in Feb at the latest Mar. I'm guessing this is the old list since I haven't received any word and I'm third on the list. I don't want to get too specific, but this info comes from one of the city's resource hospitals who've already started preparations for the class. So, number 9, be on the look out as a possible alternate, I know I am and I'll be sure to post on here if I hear anything further.
bullet joescobra03 on Friday December 09 2011 - 02:34:44

Well we pretty much know that no one will be getting hired until 2012. Not enough time for this year, and I doubt they would start an academy on the 16 of December right before the holidays.
bullet GMedic on Tuesday November 15 2011 - 08:04:06
I know CFD does not do the polygraph and I'm pretty sure they don't do a psych. It's the "physical agility" test, a hair test, a medical screening, and lots of paperwork...then academy time, I believe.
bullet number93 on Wednesday November 09 2011 - 14:50:08
i was wondering if the cfd makes candidates go through a psych or poly?
bullet mike33 on Wednesday November 09 2011 - 11:30:18
I was wondering the same. It has been a long time since a medic academy was held it seems.
bullet medic/ffburbs on Saturday November 05 2011 - 21:05:11
cfdadmin, any word on if they are going to be running a class to get the rest of the old list through the academy?
bullet me on Saturday November 05 2011 - 13:08:50
Buses ? Must be from N.Y. Anyway. in a city the size of Chicago, you need an ALL A.L.S. Ambulance department, PERIOD! Other cities like say Boston that have B.L.S. & A.L.S. it works when you have a population of <600.000 citizens & you educate people on when it's appropriate to call 911 for an Ambulance. It's time to get rid of the B.L.S. ambo's, it never worked here, plain & simple .
bullet brentlee on Wednesday October 12 2011 - 10:29:57
I was just reading a suntimes article that the mayor retracted his statement on wanting to make all buses ALS. I believe it was dated sept 30th. I hope I read that wrong
bullet ffpm1096 on Wednesday October 12 2011 - 10:19:18
as far as I know, that really doesn't affect rank and file too much. It will combine districts, so relievers will have more companies they can go to and details will expand. But it shouldn't affect how many companies remain or manpower. It reduces big bosses from the payroll along with their cars, salaries, etc. Might even free up money so they can go ahead and make those BLS rigs ALS which would help out those of you on the new EMS list. Hope it does work out that way because the BLS ambulance concept was always a bad idea.
bullet Countrysox2 on Tuesday October 11 2011 - 20:49:36
actually it has been reported by the suntimes fire suppression going from six to five districts
bullet ffpm1096 on Tuesday October 11 2011 - 10:06:06
he can "plan" all he wants, but he's got contracts in place. Don't know acout the cops, but CFD has a manning cluse and specific number of engines, trucks, etc. He can close a house, but the union would have to agree to shutting down a company. As much as the citizens bitch about taxes and city expenses, nobody ever wants a firehouse or police station in THEIR neighborhood closed. What I've seen so far of this guy he thinks he's still the president's chief of staff and just because he says so everybody's going to jump. Well, I don't think so Mr. Mayor-doesn't work that way at this level.
bullet brentlee on Tuesday October 11 2011 - 09:55:59
Usually if there was a big announcment like that it would be posted at cityofchicago.org
bullet GMedic on Tuesday October 11 2011 - 09:18:37
Did I hear correctly? Rahm plans on closing police AND fire stations to balance the deficit? Wow...
bullet Iceman26 on Friday October 07 2011 - 13:07:38

bullet GMedic on Thursday October 06 2011 - 17:23:46
hey 93, i can assure you that the new list hasn't been touched yet...I'm number 3, the minute I get that letter to start the process, I'll post it on here
